Rescuers on Vancouver's North Shore have located two lost snowboarders and brought them down from a mountainside in the Cypress Mountain resort.

West Vancouver police say they received a call around 3:52 p.m. on Wednesday from one of the lost boarders, who said that his friend was stuck in a river and unable to move.

A police helicopter located the two boarders, who flashed signals at passing aircraft.

North Shore Rescue workers attempted to lift the pair using a long line, but later switched to a ground search.

The two boarders were found in the early evening, and rescuers say a GPS locator on an iPhone carried by one of them helped in the search.

The process of bringing the pair down from the mountain took several hours.
