An assault charge has been laid against an RCMP officer with the North Vancouver detachment.

The single charge against Const. Quentin Frewing follows a complaint of excessive force during an arrest on June 18 in North Vancouver.

Frewing has been restricted to administrative duties since an investigation of the complaint was launched on June 22nd.

Detachment Superintendent Tonia Enger says it was important to take Frewing off the road as soon as the allegations were made and she urges patience while the legal process is underway.

An RCMP Code of Conduct probe is also proceeding.

The incident is alleged to have occurred during an investigation into Liquor Act violations.
