LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Rough Sailing sustained a fatal injury in the US$1-million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf on Saturday at Churchill Downs.

The two-year-old fractured the right humerus, a major support bone in the upper leg, when he slipped and fell going into the first turn. He was taken off the track in a van and examined on the back straight.

"It's not a fracture that's repairable," on-call veterinarian Dr. C. Wayne McIlwraith said.

Jockey Rosie Napravnik, unseated in the spill, walked off and was not hurt.

Atta Boy Roy was more fortunate. He was pulled up following the $2-million Sprint as jockey Calvin Borel jumped off and a splint was applied to the horse's right leg.

He sustained only a mild ligament injury, McIlwraith said.
