The man shot and killed in Abbotsford early Thursday morning has been identified, police said in a release Friday.

Forty-nine-year-old Thavone Narong has been identified as the father of Eddie Narong, who was one of the six victims in the October 2007 murders in Surrey known as the Surrey Six.

While Thavone Narong was known to police as having a criminal past, there is no evidence yet to suggest that this homicide is connected to the Surrey Six investigation.

Investigators are conducting an extensive search of the neighbourhood where Narong was found dead in his car outside a house on the 3000-block of Charles Court in the Clearbrook area.

Abbotsford police are still looking for witnesses and are considering a number of theories in relation to the killing.

Police said they have not established any links to gangs, drugs or organized crime but that the murder appears to be a targeted homicide. They are attempting to track down all associates of Narong to aid in the investigation.
