A man was shot and killed in the 3000-block of Charles Court in the Clearbrook area of Abbotsford early this morning, according to police.

Abbotsford police received calls at around 6:30 a.m. from residents reporting a collision and the sound of gunshots.

When officers arrived at the scene they found a 49-year-old man dead in a vehicle outside a house.

Sgt. Casey Vinet told ctvbc.ca that police do not believe the shooting was random.

"The victim has been identified and he is known to police as having a criminal lifestyle. It's too early to say whether it's a gang related shooting but that's something investigators will be looking at closely," he said.

Vinet said there have been no arrests in connection with the incident but that police will be looking into the victim's background for possible suspects. The investigation is still underway and police are speaking to potential witnesses and family members of the victim.
