VANCOUVER - The political corruption trial of three B.C. government employees resumes today in Vancouver and political observers say the timing could not be worse for Premier Gordon Campbell.

He is already under fire for breaking an election promise to keep the harmonized sales tax out of the province.

Now, as lawyers argue who's to blame for leaked documents linked to the sale of BC Rail, critics believe the trial will highlight Campbell's broken pledge not to sell the former Crown corporation.

Political scientist Norman Ruff says revelations from the trial could further damage the Liberal's plunging popularity because both BC Rail and the HST highlight matters of trust.

The B.C. Supreme Court trial of three former government employees is picking up after a summer recess and is expected to continue at least until spring.

Crown lawyers argue former ministerial aides Dave Basi and Bobby Virk allegedly took bribes in exchange for confidential government documents related to the one-billion dollar sale while Basi's cousin, Aneal Basi, is charged with money laundering.
