It probably won't come as a surprise to anyone who's filled up their vehicle in Vancouver lately to see why a recent study shows the city has highest gas prices in all of Canada.

In a weekly survey released Tuesday by energy consultancy group MJ Ervin and Associates, it shows that gas prices in Vancouver have soared to an average of $1.19 a litre, well above the country-wide average of $1.04.

Metro Vancouver has seen a spike in fuel prices in the past two months, where gas prices increased 1.1 cents worth to its current place. A year ago, the average fuel price in Vancouver was 98 cents a litre.

Typically cities like Yellowknife or Labrador City, Newfoundland, have the highest prices because of their remote market, but Vancouver has topped the list as the most expensive fuel alongside the Northwest Territories, whose fuel prices sit at an average of $1.16 a litre.

At an average of 92 cents a litre, Edmonton currently has the lowest gas price in the country.
