A 16-year-old girl was stabbed to death at a house party in Peachland, B.C., Wednesday night, and another teenage girl has been arrested in connection to the murder.
West Kelowna RCMP found the victim suffering from serious wounds around 9:30 p.m., in a house on San Clemente Avenue where about 20 young people were drinking at a party.
The victim was transported to Kelowna General Hospital, where she died soon after.
A 16-year-old girl remains in police custody in connection with the stabbing.
Const. Steve Holmes told ctvbc.ca the suspect and victim were known to each other and described them as "by and large, your good kids."
He said that it's likely that alcohol played a part in the murder.
"It's a terrible reminder of how alcohol abuse clouds a person's ability to make rational choices."
Police are still investigating possible motivations for the stabbing, and charges have yet to be laid. The victim's and the suspect's names have not been released.
The murder is the second stabbing death of a teen girl in B.C. in two weeks. On May 21, 17-year-old Angela Qui was killed at a house party in South Vancouver.
Eighteen-year-old Katey Renieta Gonzales of Surrey has been charged with second-degree murder for the killing.
