Three men and three women were arrested during a protest near Vancouver's Fairmont Waterfront Hotel.

A group identifying themselves as the People's Street Summit blocked the streets and voiced their opposition to the G8 University Summit, which takes place in Vancouver Friday and Saturday. Demonstrators claim the summit is closed-door and unaccountable.

Police say the crowd assembled peacefully at the Vancouver Art Gallery Friday afternoon before marching to Canada Place. Things turned ugly when demonstrators pushed against a police line that was erected to prevent them from entering the hotel.

Additional officers were called to prevent the violence from escalating further, police say.

No injuries were reported. A small group later gathered at Vancouver Jail to protest the arrest of six demonstrators.
