Nineteen per cent of RCMP officers who took part in an internal survey say they've been harassed on the job by a superior, supervisor or coworker.

The statistics are contained in the RCMP Employee Opinion Survey conducted in 2009 and posted on the Mounties' website.

The national survey of more than 12,000 officers reveals 46 per cent felt their superiors weren't competent to carry out their responsibilities.

Another 48 per cent of respondents said they'd thought about quitting, some on a daily basis, but most at least monthly, while 44 per cent said they had never considered leaving the force.

Eight per cent of RCMP respondents reported the national police force was a good place to work and 72 per cent said they were satisfied with their careers.

But 24 per cent said they would have doubts about recommending their job to others, while seven per cent would advise against it.
