Vancouver hockey fans now have another reason to celebrate the sport as the City of Vancouver marks April 27 as Canucks Day.
Mayor Gregor Robertson read a proclamation on the 27th at noon for Canucks Day at Vancouver City Hall.
A Vancouver Canucks flag will be raised for the day at City Hall and Vancouver Canucks mascot, Fin, will be handing out white towels most commonly found on spectator seats during a game.
The day is being marked as a celebration for the team's move to the second round of the NHL playoffs after the Canucks finished off the L.A. Kings with a 4-2 victory Sunday night.
The Canucks will open their second-round playoff series on Friday, head coach Alain Vigneault said today.
"The league has told us we'll start Friday, whether it's at home or on the road," Vigneault said.
The Canucks will be off to Chicago to go against the Blackhawks if the hawks beat the Nashville Predators, but if Chicago looses, they'll be starting at home against the winner of the Detroit-Phoenix series.
It is the ninth time the Canucks have made it to round two since the team's inception into the NHL in 1970.
The 2009-10 season has set a new record for most wins at home and marks the 300th consecutive game sell-out.
