A loading ramp collapsed at a Delta, B.C., marine terminal Tuesday night, sending one worker into the water.

Rescuers tossed a life ring into the river, but the person was unable to grab onto it.

The worker's body was later pulled from the water. Emergency responders were unable to revive him, Delta police said.

The worker's identity was not immediately known.

The incident happened at Seaspan Coastal Intermodal's Tilbury terminal in Delta.

Seaspan provides daily ferry service for freight products, consumer goods and automobiles between Delta and Vancouver Island, according to its website.

WorkSafeBC will lead the investigation, police said.
