A suspicious package that shut down the biggest transportation hub in Vancouver's North Shore community Thursday afternoon turned out to be harmless.

Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver and the adjacent bus loop were shut down and evacuated around 2:30 p.m. after transit security contacted authorities about an unusual package in the terminal.

The North Vancouver bomb squad attended and safely detonated the package, Const. Michael McLaughlin told CTV News.

"It's looking like there was a fairly common household item that was packaged in a way that made it look suspicious," he said.

"There's no actual threat. There's nothing to be concerned about."

Turned out the package contained a fishing rod.

The terminal later reopened.

Lonsdale Quay is the northern terminal for the SeaBus passenger ferry, which crosses Burrard Inlet to downtown Vancouver every 20 minutes.
