Two Ontario skiers died Thursday in an out-of-bounds area of Revelstoke, B.C.

A third skier was rescued off the mountain.

RCMP said the trio from Grimsby, Ont., had skied into a steep, hard-packed and icy chute at the Revelstoke Mountain Resort.

In an attempt to ascend the chute, the three removed their skis.

While ascending, the three lost their footing and slid about 100 metres and then went over a cliff, police said.

Two died at the scene.

As of Friday afternoon, their identities had not yet been released.

Revelstoke is about 550 kilometres northeast of Vancouver.
