The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning the public about a recall for certain Daniele brand salami products that may be contaminated with salmonella.

The products were sold in stores in Costco stores in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and Super C stores in Quebec.

Salmonella-contaminated products may not look or smell different from any other product. However, the bacteria can cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness that can cause serious and potentially deadly infections. .

Symptoms of salmonella may include fever, headache, diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea and sometimes vomiting and can be worse for young children, the elderly, and those with weak immune systems, according to the agency.

Daniele International Inc. is recalling a total of 1.2 million pounds of ready-to-eat deli meat in Canada and the United States.
