A charter bus carrying an Abbotsford, B.C., midget hockey team slid off Highway 97 about five kilometers south of Williams Lake in B.C.'s central Interior Friday afternoon.
Twenty-one out of 24 people onboard were admitted to hospital, but the injuries primarily consisted of abrasions and were all minor, Allison Ruault, health services administrator at Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake, told ctvbc.ca.
The Fraser Valley Bruins were travelling from Abbotsford to Prince George, and were scheduled to stop in Williams Lake Friday night.
About 3 p.m., the bus hit black ice and the driver lost control, said Gordon Anderson, dispatcher for Richmond-based International Stage Lines, which owns and operates the bus.
Pat Ansell, the Bruins' coach, told ctvbc.ca by phone from the hospital that the bus fishtailed and then ended up in a ditch.
Pictures from the scene showed that the bus flipped onto the driver's side.
Ansell said the boys on the team -- ages 15 to 17 -- were holding up well.
"There's been lots of hugging," he said.
Ansell said three adults accompanied the team on the trip.
He said they will regroup tonight and decide whether to continue with the trip.
