Vision Vancouver park board members are planning to put forward a motion to allow private groups to submit ideas on how to save two popular local attractions.
The Bloedel Conservatory and children's petting zoo in Stanley Park are both on the chopping block because of a $2.8 million shortfall in the Vancouver Park Board budget.
Aaron Jasper said two motions will be put forward in a meeting Monday for "Requests of Interest" for both the conservatory and farmyard.
"We want to see them succeed and we're hoping to get some creative solutions and some ideas from other sectors about how they would be able to continue," he told CTV News Tuesday.
It will take an estimated $400,000 a year to keep both attractions running.
Jasper said capital upgrades for the aging conservatory would cost at least $2 million, but the money could be easily recouped if more effort was put into marketing and support for the facility.
The matter is set to appear again before Vancouver city council Wednesday. A meeting last week saw only eight out of more than 100 potential speakers getting a chance to voice their opinion.
