A 29-year-old Brazilian has won a contest to be an honorary ski bum this winter at one of British Columbia's top resorts.

Thiago Lucena beat out over 50 entrants worldwide for the I Want to Be a Ski Bum promotion at Sun Peaks Resort in the province's Interior.

The resort asked avid ski bunnies to submit a 60-second video through YouTube about why they would be the perfect person to promote the resort.

Judges said it was hard to narrow down the finalists but the freelance videographer from São Paulo proved his passion for skiing and snow culture.

"Thiago stood out to the judges," Sun Peaks' Christina Antoniak said.

The avid skier nets a season's pass, accommodation, meals at local restaurants, and gear -- all things he can boast about through social networking sites. Thiago is responsible for posting daily blog entries, as well as Twitter and Facebook updates.

Thiago grew up riding the mountains of South America, and also taught lessons in California. He arrives early January for his three-month stay.

Sun Peaks was voted one of the top 10 ski resorts in North America by Condé Nast last year. The resort is the training venue for the Austrian national ski team ahead of the 2010 Winter Games.

The resort was inspired to launch the contest after a hugely successful contest in Australia last year.

An Englishman beat more than 34,000 applicants from around the world to land the coveted wad of cash, about $134,000, to become the six-month caretaker of Hamilton Island and blog about his experience.
