The trial of a father and son accused of first-degree murder in the death of a 14-year-old girl began Monday in Chilliwack.

Jessie Blue West, 56, expressed little emotion in the Chilliwack Supreme Court Monday, sitting straight up before a jury of seven men and five women.

His son, Dustin Blue Moir, 24, hung his head and stared at the floor.

Both men are charged with the death of Chilliwack resident Chelsey Acorn.

Acorn disappeared from her foster home in June 2005. Her body was discovered months later by hikers in a shallow grave near Hope.

The following spring, West and Moir were charged.

Acorn's mother Lisa told CTV News she would attend every day of the trial.

"I want people to know Chelsey was a real person, and nobody needs to go through this," she said.

Crown counsel alleges the deceased knew West and Moir, and that in fall 2005 they had invited her on a camping trip.

There the pair allegedly strangled Acorn and crushed her skull with a rock before burying her naked body.

The trial is expected to last 30 days.
