Snow has pounded the Whistler Blackcomb mountains over the past few days and more is on its way.

Resort officials said Saturday in a press release that opening day is set for Nov. 26, but an early opening is possible.

The long-range forecast shows that a strong weather system will roll through the Coastal Mountains bringing significant snowfall - possibly up to 60 centimetres - over the next five days, officials said.

The freezing level is expected to stay near the valley bottom, "meaning optimal temperatures for natural snowfall and snowmaking across much of Whistler Blackcomb's one-mile vertical rise," officials said.

Snowmaking production machines are converting more than 7,000,000 gallons of water into snow per day.
