A Surrey, B.C., truck driver is being held in the United States for allegedly attempting to smuggle 192 pounds of cocaine into Canada.
Sukhvinder Shoker, 46, was stopped by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Blaine, Washington on Saturday.
A detailed search of his 2005 commercial truck was ordered after a narcotics dog, "Mac," alerted officers to the smell of drugs.
Officers report finding 24 boxes containing 76 bricks of cocaine behind a retrofitted compartment. A spokesperson for Immigration and Customs Enforcement says the drugs have a street value of up to $3 million.
Shoker was remanded into custody after a brief court appearance Tuesday.
He said he delivered a load of goods in Portland, Oregon, last week. Shoker says the boxes were loaded into his vehicle by two men in California.
This is the second large cocaine bust at the Blaine border crossing in recent months. In July, CBP officers arrested a 32-year-old Calgary man for allegedly attempting to bring 238 pounds of cocaine into Canada.
