Whether you spent the day inside or outdoors, it was hard to miss the intense wind blowing across Metro Vancouver.

Gusts of more than 60 km/h made for a bumpy ride for boaters and canoeists at Jericho Beach.

UBC students taking part in the annual "Day of the Longboat" event were buffeted by strong winds that kept them close to shore.

Three canoes flipped over. However, rescue boats were nearby to help pluck everyone out of the water, said Benjamin Rummen, event coordinator at the Jericho Sailing Centre.

No one was hurt.

The strong winds, however, eventually forced cancellation of the event for the day. It is scheduled to resume Sunday morning at 7:00 a.m.
