Abbotsford Police are investigating the city's third murder in less than a week after the discovery of a young woman's body in the west side.

The woman, who police say has ties to criminal activity, was found dead inside a home in the 31300-block of McConachie Place around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

Const. Ian MacDonald told ctvbc.ca officers were at the house trying to make contact with another resident inside.

"They were there on another matter. Officers knocked on the door and no one was home so they went in and found her," he said.

MacDonald said although investigators are still in their preliminary stages it appears the victim is connected to criminals.

"I think what we're dealing with there, right or wrong, is someone that put themselves in harms way," he said.

"The female was in her early twenties and the incident is being investigated as a homicide. It's tragic for someone so young, but we want the average citizen to know that they're not in any danger."

The Abbotsford Police major crimes unit, as well as the forensic identification team and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) are investigating.

The woman's family has been notified, but her name has not been released.

This is the third homicide in the region in recent days.

On Thursday, Abbotsford Police found human remains inside a burned out car in a berry field after being called about a suspicious vehicle.

On the same day, a 36-year-old man with an extensive criminal history was stabbed to death inside a home on Hopedale Avenue. One person was arrested shortly after.

Anyone with information on the murders is asked to call the IHIT Tip Line at 1-877-551-IHIT or CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-800-222-TIPS.
