An adult male black bear sauntered into Surrey, B.C., Wednesday morning, where it spent the morning walking through yards and climbing fences.

RCMP were called to the 15400 block of 112A Avenue at about 12:30 p.m., after residents saw the burly omnivore moseying through the neighbourhood.

Locals were told to call in their children and pets, as conservation officers tracked the bear to a nearby area and shot it with a tranquilizer.

Officers say the bear decided to scamper up a tree before the tranquilizer took effect, but fortunately fell down without injury after falling asleep.

The bear has been transferred to Squamish, where it will be released in a location determined by conservation staff.
