A Surrey couple were killed Tuesday night in a multi-vehicle accident near Leduc, Alta.

A Dodge Ram truck was going south on Highway 2 A when the driver went off the shoulder of the road and veered sharply back into the northbound lane, according to an RCMP press release.

The truck collided with a Buick Lucerne, which ended up in a ditch. An Acura Integra behind the Buick also smashed into the truck.

All three people in the Buick died. The Surrey couple have been identified as Rita McGillivray, 53, and her husband Ian, 60. Rita McGillivray's mother, Maria Zetzen, 77, of Camrose, Alta., was also killed.

The driver of the Dodge truck was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Acura was not hurt.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, RCMP said.
