Surrey RCMP are looking for a pedophile after a 6-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on Friday while walking with her older brother and a friend in the 13900 block of 62nd Avenue.

Neighbours are wondering why the little girl's father didn't call police, instead of choosing to take matters into his own hands, by putting up posters in the area saying he will pay good money to anyone who can get the person who attacked his daughter

Police say the girl and the two boys were approached by a male who was brandishing a folding knife.

All three where ordered to move to a treed location, where the male took the girl to a separate area and sexually assaulted her. After threatening the two boys (aged 12 and 15), the male then fled on food.

The attack occurred in a wooded area where someone had set up a makeshift camp, with crayons and makeup left lying around.

"This is perhaps a parent's worst nightmare when their six year old daughter has been sexually assaulted,'' said Sgt. Roger Morrow of the Surrey RCMP detachment.

He said police were alerted to this incident on Saturday evening, leaving investigators a day behind because the girl's father elected to put up the posters instead of calling police right away.

Police are now looking for a man with dark skin, who may be Hispanic, Asian or South Asian.

He is described as being in his late 20s or early 30s. Sporting a black crew cut, he is about 5 ft. 10 ins. tall, and has a slight accent.

At the time of the assault, police say he was wearing a blue t-shirt, blue or black pants and shinny shoes.

Police want anyone with any information with regards to this event or anyone that may have any knowledge as to the person responsible for this offence, to call the RCMP in Surrey at (604) 599-0502, 911 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Meanwhile, further efforts are under way to draft a composite sketch of the person responsible for this offence. Once completed, it will likely be released to the public.
