A 15-year-old boy from Surrey, B.C., is dead after a late-night car crash Monday night -- and police say drinking may have been a factor.
Surrey RCMP say the boy was riding south down 128th street in a 1999 Chevrolet Malibu at around 9:00 p.m. when the vehicle lost control.
"We've got some indication that there was erratic driving behaviour," Sgt. Roger Morrow said Tuesday.
The car struck a neighbouring SUV, and then ran into a lamp post. The 16-year-old driver and one passenger received minor injuries, and a second passenger was rushed to hospital.
He died of his injuries a few hours later.
The three SUV occupants were treated for minor injuries and released from hospital.
Police say alcohol and speed are being considered as factors in the crash.
"It's being considered," Morrow said. "I can't speak definitely until the conclusion of the investigation."
Surrey RCMP Traffic Services is investigating the accident and is asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call 604-599-0502.
There were hugs and tears as friends of Sharma gathered beside a bus stop to remember him on Tuesday. Sharma was a popular student at Princess Margaret High School.
