As the sun sets over the North Shore, rescue teams have still found no sign of Daniel Hughes.
Authorities say 29-year-old Hughes has not been heard from since June 5. He was last seen with his distinctive yellow mountain bike leaving his Oak Street apartment.
Hughes' father Allan says it's not out of character for Daniel to cycle out of Vancouver to blow off steam.
"Daniel could ride a range of 100 kilometres in three hours. The North Shore would be just the closest access to the mountains," he said. "He grew up in the mountains."
On Friday, authorities received a call that his bike was locked to a tree near the Seymour Heights area of North Vancouver, spurring an intensive 20-person search through the woods.
"The area is immense. If somebody wanted to go a long distance, it's like finding a needle in a haystack," North Short Search and Rescue manager Ron Royston said Saturday.
Search efforts are expected to close again at sunset, between 8 and 9 p.m. - meaning one more anxious night for Hughes' loved ones.
His father admits Hughes may have been distressed, and the Vancouver Police Department's missing persons unit is considering all possibilities.
Sgt. Kirk Star says the fact that his bike was locked may be a good sign that he was planning to come back.
"People that are distraught or go missing usually you would think just abandon what they have," Star said. "But it's a good sign for us that he's locked the bike."
"We're hopeful that he's locked the bike knowing that he wants to come back."
