Eagle watchers await webcam hatchings

HORNBY ISLAND, B.C. -

Three nests of bald eagles in British Columbia that have been streaming live over the Internet for several years could soon have a few new additions after several eggs were laid.

The Hancock Wildlife Foundation, which operates the webcams on Hornby Island, Sydney and Delta says three eggs have already been laid in Sidney, one on Hornby Island and two in Delta.

The foundation launched the Hornby Island camera in 2006, and then set up the Sidney cam in 2007. The Delta cam is the newest.

The hatching of two baby eagles in Sydney two years ago drew worldwide attention, with virtual onlookers helping name the pair.

The Hornby Island egg is expected to hatch around April 26, the three eggs in Sidney could hatch around April 5 and the two Delta eggs could hatch by the end of this month.
