It may be a few more days before both lanes of B.C.'s Highway 16 between Terrace and Kitwanga are open again.

A large rockslide came down on the roadway Wednesday, severing the main artery about 30 kilometres west of Kitwanga.

Geo-technicians have surveyed the site, and the Ministry of Transportation says the area is still very unstable. Initially, crews were unable to clear the rocks because of the threat of further slides.

To the relief of drivers, one lane on the highway has been reopened. There is no other viable detour.
