Coquitlam, B.C., residents living in Westwood Plateau got an unexpected visitor, Thursday afternoon.
A giant bear was spotted just metres away from the front door of a home.
The bear knocked over two plastic garbage cans that weren't locked up, digging and tearing into the plastic bags that contained food.
At one point, the bear even walked down the front steps of another home.
Neighbours say bear sightings are common in the area.
Conservation officers say the incident acts as a good reminder to lock up your garbage or keep it in your garage.

Just AL
if only these "neighbours" weren't so openly welcome by not locking their garbage or storing them somewhere where "thieves" can't get into it and take them out only on garbage pick-up day. What do you expect? Bears get hungry too and you are on a friggin' Westwood Plateau "Mountainside"!

When we lived in the Hockaday area, we had bears all the time. It didn't make the press though.
The Coquitlam River area is bear country. People have to adapt and learn to live with them.

The news is NOT about the Bears!
The news here is thoughtless people who continue to leave garbage out to attract the bears. If you live in this area, you must know by now that you share it with all sorts of wildlife including bears.
I do live here, and I really like the fact that bears live this close to my house. For htat reason my garbage is locked inside my garage.
Please stopping making the story about the bears instead of the humans.
