The days of being able to purchase bottled water at city-run facilities in Vancouver could be numbered.
City Councillor Tim Stevenson wants those bottles gone, and to prove it, he is leading campaign to ban their sale at all civic facilities.
"Here we're sitting on the best glacially fed water and instead of turning on the tap we walk over and buy a bottle of water that we don't know when it was packaged and we really don't know where it came from," he said.
The idea of imposing a ban is getting support from Vancouver's ruling civic party, the Non-Partisan Association.
"I think they should understand the benefits of choosing tap water and I think it should be more readily available," said NPA Councillor Peter Ladner.
Meanwhile the entire Metro Vancouver region is about to start a big public education campaign aimed at getting people to turn away from the bottle and to turn on the tap."
So while a final decision is still a ways off, it appears the days of being able to buy a bottle of water in Vancouver could be coming to a close

why would they waste some time on doing things like this, when there is more important things to run the city instead of banning water.
ummmm
whats wrong with water bottles, there handy, and there when you need them, wether at a store or at home. there nice to go. (out with anywhere) and good to go. if your picky, reuse the same water bottle. If your going out,..really people.

Is it just me or does this article not explain WHY they want to ban the
the bottled water.
just wondering
wasn't there a large boil water advisory last winter from all the storms? and the winter before that... i'm all about the environment but i do think this issue needs to be thought out a little bit more. if and when there is a natural disaster what are we supposed to drink then? what about people who already don't have access to a tap cause they're homeless supposed to drink?

What do you want people who like very cold water to drink?? Water from a tap is not cold enough. So I guess you just want pop bottles instead!!

It makes no sense to ban water and continue to sell soft drinks and other unhealthy products.
At least bottled water is a healthy choice when you are faced with public fountains and bathroom faucet.
