This is Larry Bolduc reclining in the sun. Larry is also a contest winner with a photograph in this exhibition.
He is employed with United We Can’s Lanes Cleaning Project, which works with groups to clean sidewalks,
alleys and public spaces. The project started small, with crews cleaning the area around United We Can’s recycling centre, but has grown and now employs over 30 people and services a 40 square block radius including Gastown, Strathcona and Chinatown. Photographer Karen Ree has lived in the Downtown Eastside for the last two years and has volunteered at Carnegie Centre for ten. When asked about the contest, Karen says “I had been interested in photography and I was going into Carnegie [to work] in the kitchen. I saw the flyers [for the photo contest] so I decided to enter.” A new entrant, Karen has two photos in this exhibition.
